Web design

Website relaunch without losing your existing rankings.

A website relaunch is the rebuild of an existing website in which design, technology and content are renewed without losing the visibility you already have on Google. To do this, we record every old URL, keep what ranks, improve what holds the site back and redirect every old address to its new destination. This is often a move from WordPress to a faster system such as Astro.

Scope of services

What you get

This is always included with Website relaunch. Your quote after the intro call sets out the exact scope.

  • A redirect plan for every old URL, so rankings and backlinks are preserved

  • An inventory from Search Console and backlink data before any page disappears

  • Leaner technology, for example Astro instead of a page builder with lots of plugins

  • A new structure based on search queries: one page per service, no competition between your own pages

  • Monitoring after launch: error pages, indexing and positions in the first few weeks

Process

  1. Step 01

    Inventory

We record all URLs from the sitemap and a crawl, plus clicks, impressions and backlinks per page. This shows us which pages bring visitors and authority.

  2. Step 02

    Structure and redirect plan

Every old address gets a destination. We merge duplicate or thin pages and fill gaps with new pages.

  3. Step 03

    Rebuild

Design, copy and technology are created in a test environment that you can view in your browser at any time.

  4. Step 04

    Migration and monitoring

Go-live with single-hop redirects, sitemap submitted in Search Console, followed by regular checks of errors and positions.

Why a relaunch can cost rankings

A relaunch costs rankings when URLs change and Google can no longer find the old addresses. Every page that ranks on Google today has collected signals: clicks, backlinks, internal links. If the address disappears without a redirect, the visitor lands on an error page and the signals are lost.

The typical mistakes are almost always the same: pages are deleted because they “look old”, even though they bring visitors. Redirects all point to the homepage instead of the matching new page. Copy that ranked is replaced with shorter copy. Or the new site goes live while the test environment’s block for Google is still in place. Every one of these mistakes can be avoided.

How an SEO-safe migration works with us

An SEO-safe migration follows a fixed plan that begins before the first design.

  1. Inventory: we record all URLs from the sitemap and a crawl, plus the data from Google Search Console and the backlinks per page. The result is a table: which page brings visitors, which has links, which is superfluous.
  2. Decision per page: keep, improve, merge or remove. Pages with visibility keep their content or get better content.
  3. Redirect plan: every old address gets exactly one destination, via a 301 redirect in a single hop, without chains.
  4. Technical checks: titles, descriptions, canonicals, structured data, internal links and loading time are tested before launch.
  5. Launch and monitoring: submit the sitemap, watch for error pages, track the positions of the most important search terms and make adjustments.

From WordPress to Astro: when it is worth it

Switching from WordPress to Astro is worth it if your site mainly displays content and speed, security and low maintenance matter more than hundreds of plugins. Astro generates the pages as finished HTML at build time. There is no database that is queried on every visit and there are no plugins that need monthly updates.

You should stay with WordPress if your team maintains content in it every day, if you run an extensive shop with WooCommerce or if important processes depend on plugins that don’t exist elsewhere. In the inventory we tell you honestly what suits you. You can find background on security risks with WordPress in the guide WordPress security.

What we learned from our own migration

Our own website ran on WordPress with a page builder until 2026. For the move to Astro we used exactly the process described above. The inventory showed how much accumulates on a site that has grown over time: the old homepage had 559 KB of HTML. We recorded 102 URLs from the sitemap, found duplicate glossary entries and two service pages with identical content, and used this to write a redirect plan that takes every old URL to its new destination in a single step.

The most important insight: the biggest problems were not technical but structural. Several of our own pages were competing for the same search terms. A relaunch is the best opportunity to sort that out.

Checklist for your relaunch

These points should be settled before any relaunch, no matter who you work with:

  • Back up data: export from Google Search Console over the longest available period, a list of all URLs, backlinks per page.
  • A destination for each URL: every old address has a defined new destination. No blanket redirect to the homepage.
  • Content that ranks: copy from pages with visibility is carried over or improved, not shortened.
  • Test environment blocked, live site open: the test version is blocked for Google, the live version must never be.
  • Check the technology before launch: titles, descriptions, canonicals, structured data, sitemap, loading time on smartphones.
  • Consistent tracking: forms and enquiries are measured the same way before and after the relaunch, otherwise nothing can be compared.
  • A plan for the first few weeks: who checks error pages and indexing every day, and who is allowed to make adjustments?

Relaunch with new features

A relaunch is often the moment when a website needs to do more: a price calculator, appointment booking, an online sign-up flow or a customer area. Because we also write code, we plan such features in from the start. More on this under Funnel development and Software development.

What a relaunch costs

A relaunch starts at €2,500 for a simple website. More pages, new copy, multiple languages and features increase the effort. The inventory shows how big the site really is and what happens to each URL. After that you receive a quote with a clearly defined scope. The guide How much does a website cost? explains which factors determine the price and which running costs come on top.

After launch we can take over maintenance and hosting or ongoing SEO support if you wish. If you want to rebuild your site without risking visibility: Book an intro call.

FAQ

Questions about Website relaunch

Will I lose my Google rankings in a relaunch?

Not if the move is planned properly. What matters is redirects from every old URL to the matching new one, keeping the content of pages that rank today, and monitoring after launch. Short fluctuations in the first few weeks are normal.

Why should I move away from WordPress?

You don't have to. But many WordPress sites with page builders and lots of plugins become slow and maintenance-heavy. A system like Astro serves finished HTML pages, needs no plugin updates and offers a smaller attack surface. If your team works well with WordPress, it can remain the right choice.

Can I manage content myself after the relaunch?

Yes. If you like, we connect a CMS where you change text and images without code. Which solution fits depends on how often content is updated and by whom.

How much does a relaunch cost?

From €2,500 for a simple website. The price depends mainly on how many pages are migrated or rewritten and which features are added. After the inventory you receive a quote with a clearly defined scope.

How long does a relaunch take?

That depends on the scope. A small company website is much quicker than a migration with hundreds of guide pages. We set the schedule after the inventory.

When is a relaunch not worth it?

If the site ranks well, loads fast and brings in enquiries, reworking individual pages is often enough. A complete rebuild is worth it when technology, structure or design are holding back results.
